WDT: JCC Mens LAX - The Cannoneers have a good balance of youth and veterans

MEN'S LACROSSE

"Outlook:The success of the Cannoneers' defense should dictate the direction of the season, head coach Mark Streiff said. They'll depend on the production of returning goalieDevin Heldt, who registered 21.9 saves per outing in 2008, during the typically tough Region 3 campaign. "This region is always very competitive," Streiff said. "Just about every team is always ranked (nationally), and we play them all." The attack gets a lift from former General Brown standoutPete Pike, who signed in 2006, but never played for Rutgers University. Pike had six goals and five assists last week in JCC's first game. Former Watertown High starSean McAuliffegenerated eight goals during that victory. The Cannoneers have a good balance of youth and veterans with 14 freshmen, and nine returnees.

Coach:Mark Streiff (10th year)

2008 record:10-5 overall, 8-5 Region III

Players to watch:Devin Heldt, Pete Pike, Dan Boshart, Dan McAuliffe."
