Cold and flu season can have a dramatic effect on practices and games. Trying to perform physically and mentally while under weather is not a good idea. I know I don’t follow my own advice on this subject very well, but you certainly don’t want to encourage your players into doing something that actually has a negative health impact. If you’re sick you need to work on getting better. You need rest and you need to gain your strength.
This past week was fun…not! I took the last two days off for vacation. My boys have all been hit hard with a cold, and my wife and I have been fighting it, but I think we’re losing ground. Whatever this cold is, it’s been widespread throughout the area. Now we are hearing that the weather should begin to get a little rough this weekend. I think we might see a bit of freezing rain, but we’ll see how things go. With two games scheduled for the next two days things ought to be interesting. My biggest concern this weekend is the health of the team. Looks like soup is on the menu for us. Luckily I have my secret weapon handy. Time to break out the Orange Alka-Seltzer. Back to my original point, rest beats practice when you’re fighting a cold or the flu. I’m even going to try and get my flu shot this year. Maybe tonight would be a good night to get some sleep. Well at least it’s a plan.
