The jerseys were orange, but the complexions were green. Yes it was very cold this past weekend, but it wasn’t the cold that became the biggest challenge for the team. This weekend we played three teams and won each game. They were great games and the team played smart and strong. There we were heading into the championship playoff against a team we had already beaten the day before when the unbelievable happened. One by one it struck. The fastest stomach bug I had ever heard of. By the time of the game it was unclear if we would even be able to compete. A few players could not even make it to the rink, and some of the players who did make it to the rink were not feeling too well. We did put a good effort under the circumstances, but the opposing team was in much better health than we were. We took second place, but I am quite positive that had we all been healthy the outcome would have been much different. I was impressed by the effort nonetheless. I had found out later that the stomach flu had hit a lot of teams in the area. It sure came at a bad time, but we did get to play some great hockey – cold, but still great. Erik our goalie was in perfect “Patrick Roy” form. Pure speed and unbelievable reaction time. Brittany, Matt, Tyler, and Zach played solid high-pressure defense. There were spectacular plays by our forwards with such a solid defensive team to back them up. Our wingers; Kyle, Taylor, Brendan, Brandon, Rico, and Dave battled in the corners and up and down along the weeds for the puck. JC and Flash flew up and down the center lane picking off passes and attacking the net. Yes Tyler made his famous rushes from the defensive zone and snapped a few hard shots between the pipes. It was a great team effort 100% rock and roll hockey on the banks of the mighty Ontario.
