Winter did not fade quietly

Winter did not fade quietly into the dark night as rain, snow, and high winds sweep over the state. I traveled north to Watertown Friday night to watch the Cannoneers continue their winning streak against Finger Lakes in a 15 to 11 victory at the WHS field. The game was cold and damp as The JCC men's lacrosse team surged against Finger Lakes defense under the lights in front of a dedicated - if not rain soaked crowd. Storms had swept north across the state all day Friday and were on the doorstep of the city as I left the game unaware that Devin was being interviewed by the local news. The power on outer Washington Street went off as I drove out of the city into heavy winds and rain. Having everything go black all at once has a stunning effect as you realize you are driving into a storm. The ride home was interesting as the wind and rain constantly slammed against the car. I could see what appeared to be emergency lights far ahead in the distance. I probably should have driven the truck and not the car up to see the game as my wife had suggested, but I didn't think the storm would be very eventful – it was. I've driven through snowstorms and down pours, but this was a little of both. The wind is still pounding today and the rain is still mixed with snow. I had planned on going to watch the CNS varsity team play in Baldwinsville, but the game was canceled. That probably wasn't a bad idea. Most of the yards and fields around the lake here are newly formed ponds. I'm sure it's just as water soaked at the B'ville field as it is over here. I noticed that our “Lax Wall” had blown over during the night, but it can stay like that until the wind stops. The yard is wet, but as of this posting the lake is still a few feet below the level of the house. The wind is gusting so strong at the moment that the whole house is shaking pretty good. It doesn't usually do that on stormy nights. Most of the time I don't know if we are having a storm unless I go outside into it. This is definitely a good day to stay inside out of the wind, rain, and snow.
