Well I finally broke down and bought a more mobile laptop for writing. At home I use a regular sized laptop running Linux and it works very well, but lugging it around to games isn’t so great. I used a HP Mobilepro Win CE handheld for a while, but I had trouble connecting to the internet using a Wifi card occasionally. I now have the new Acer Aspire One running Linux on a Atom CPU. It works great so far, and is really all I need to take on the road. I’m not sure I even need my old laptop any more. I think I probably do, but this thing is extremely useful and light. Now all I need is to open it up and turn the power on and I’m ready to write. The screen is easy enough to see and the keypad isn’t much smaller than a regular laptop keypad. I’m sure I’ll have to learn all the necessary hacks to get the most out of the system, but it’s ok the way its setup right out of the box for most tasks. Open Office is all I need most of the time, Firefox and email. I like Thunderbird better than the Aspire One Mail that came pre-installed. I use Hotmail anyway, so it’s not that big a deal right now. It's kind of like a new pair of skates. It won't make me write any better, but it's a bit more comfortable to work with. Of course I have a tendency of wearing my skates out too soon.
