Another Saturday, another quick trip down the road to the local rink for a few laps around the ice with my youngest son Tyler and anyone from the team that has a chance to get a little free skating in. The first fifteen minutes are usually a little painful until my knee gets a chance to swell up. It sounds kind of strange, but once it does I'm OK going into the turns putting a little more weight on my left leg. We had to leave earlier than I had planned because I got another call out from work. When I got home later I had some cheese and crackers with lots of hot sauce and now my knee feels fine. It doesn't have to make any sense to anyone I know, but it seems to work for me. The end of summer is always the time of year when I know it's time to get back out on the ice. It was nice and cool out last night. It felt a little like October. There was a bright moon over the lake and a nice breeze. The Fall is coming. Next week the State Fair will open and then labor day followed by the unofficial end of what we consider summer vacation. Yeah! Soon the boys will be back in school and everything will fall into a nice routine – I hope. Soon the air conditioner at work will be fixed just in time for winter. All will be as it normally is. It won't matter, the regular hockey season will begin and then before you know it the snow will be here.
This is what I think about as I do my crossovers going around and around the rink until my cell phone rings and I am brought back out of my trance. I wonder what this phone would look like after a good old fashion slap shot against the boards. Some day soon I may find out. No, come to think of it it's my phone and I'm going to need a way to order pizza so I'd better not do that. Ok I guess I better answer it.
