He shoots. He scores! Well, that’s the hope anyway. I see way too many young lacrosse players take weak shots or miss the net completely. On the ice hockey players love to shoot. They shoot on net, they shoot at the boards, and then they go home and shoot at their garages until all the windows around them are broken. Passing is where they often need work. Making and catching passes usually takes at least two players. It’s also not as much fun as shooting the puck. Lacrosse players can bounce a ball off a stone wall or a “Lax Wall” when they are alone, but shooting requires a net. You could shoot at a drop cloth like I did as a kid, of course don’t try this on your mother’s clean sheets hanging on the cloths line. “Trust me, stick to an old drop cloth and you won’t have to explain to your dad when he gets home why you just got grounded.” If you have access to lacrosse net, take a lot of shots. I mean a lot of shots from every angle, standing and moving. Keep the net away from any windows. I’ve had to replace quite a few over the years from the ball changing direction off the posts. I keep telling my wife it’s the kids, but I think she’s on to me. Get out there and shoot, and make sure you recover any lacrosse balls that go flying into the woods or the neighbor’s yard. You’ve got to be able to shoot. If you want to get good and improve accuracy and power then take a lot of shots. Hockey players don’t just take hundreds of shots on net; they take thousands of shots over a season. This can work for lacrosse as well. Now if I could only figure out how to get that puck off the roof before my wife gets home. Hey it only took a month to get that hockey stick down last year! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Then shoot some more!
