Winter blew into the mountains that border West Virginia and Maryland in the form of high winds, snow and ice. I was hoping to avoid any bad weather and get out of there before the winds picked up. Duty calls and my job takes me to some unique locations. The power plant down here was having some major work done, and I had a window to get in and do my thing and get out before the plant goes back online. Friday I had a few things to finish up before heading north and stepping out on the ice with the team. It gives getting to practice on time a new meaning for me. I’ve traveled thousands of miles to make it to practices and games. The practice ice was just put down, and only two thirds of the rink was useable, but it was enough to get some work done. We knew Sunday would be against the only team that we had lost to so far this season. It was going to be a bellwether to see if we had improved enough to play well against them. Sunday morning came and we stepped into a very orange themed ice rink. It wasn’t ours; it was the rink we were visiting. The team’s parents sporting their orange scarves looked pretty good against the orange painted stands. I asked the team for 110% and they delivered. As long as the team continued to play their game and not allow the other team to get under their skin I knew we would do well. A 7 to 2 win is pretty good in my book. We still have a lot to work on, but we are getting a little smarter, faster, and stronger each game. That’s the plan, and so far it’s working. Of course the orange didn’t hurt either. Nice job team!
