One thing leads to another. The ice is a great teacher. Just going to free skate can be beneficial. You keep your legs used to balancing on the ice, and with a little effort you can build a little muscle – or maintain it. I also get to see whose down at the rink skating, and see what the high school summer teams are doing. I started out this morning with an hour drive north to have breakfast with my son and stop in at my parent’s house to visit. When I left the lake, the sun was shinning and the weather was hot and humid. As I drove north the sky grew grey and I found myself driving into the fog bank that had engulfed my son’s new home for college. The temperature had dropped significantly. My memories of growing up in this part of the North Country involve rain, snow, fog, and general gray skies. The sun did shine once in a while…I’m almost sure of it. My son’s comments usually inform me how it rains every day. After my visit I headed back down the interstate to go skating with my wife and two youngest boys. So far it hasn’t been a bad day. Now I’m sitting in front of the TV watching the Chicago Machine trail Rochester 0-7. The game is only in the second quarter. Chicago hasn’t had a shot yet. Wait, they just got a shot on net, but it was saved. Bang, I turn my head for one second to get a drink and Chicago scores. 19:13 minutes without a shot, I take one sip of soda and now they score. That’s it; I’m switching over to the Discovery Channel – it’s Shark Week!
