Fair Warning

The team played very well this weekend. We controlled the puck, out-shot our opponent, and did not seem as tired in the third period as we have been before. They had a good goalie who stopped a lot of high shots, and we did not get to the goal as fast as we should have to capitalize on rebounds. The loose pucks should have been snapped into the back of the net, but we floated shallow in the offensive zone too much. We did very well in the first period moving the puck, and even better getting shots on net in the second period, but near the end of the second period the wheels began to slow down. Without numbers the first half of the season will be tough until we get used to playing with such a short bench. I see improvement with every game. We are getting faster, smarter, and working better together, This still needs a lot of improvement, but we can see it. Everyone can see the team getting better. If we can play as well as we do for the first half of the game through the entire game we should do even better. The temptation to lay back and play defense too much is strong when we are tired. We need to play more offensively and pressure the puck more effectively. That takes a lot of skill and a lot of energy. Our young goalie is improving his performance with every game and every practice. It's hard to believe some other team didn't spot this talent before we added him to the roster. There is a lot of talent on this team, and a lot of strong family support behind each player. The whole season is about enjoying the game and getting something out for all the effort that we all put in. Working at becoming better hockey players, and facing some real tough challenges doesn't seem to phase this team too much. I don't doubt that this season will be a lot of “David vs Goliath” type games, so we better work on our aim if we dare take on the big guys. Time to crank up VanHalen's Fair Warning! "This is home. This is mean street"
