All over the land multitudes of hard working families take a mini vacation in the form of a trip to the local ice cream stand. Not everyone can take time off for the great American summer road trip, but they do what they can. A little treat at the end of a long day of work on a hot summer evening. Times aren't getting any easier, but it's amazing how a little bit of frozen goodness makes people smile. Hats off to all the hard working mom's and dads – friends and families who carve out a bit of happiness with little coolness. My two oldest boys were working, but Tyler, Erika, and I went down the road for quick trip to our local ice cream stand. It wasn't a scorcher like it has been lately, but it was warm enough to melt ice cream cones within a few seconds of their creation. I decided to try a dipped cone. Unfortunately no orange dip was to be found, but there was cherry. A gentleman had ordered a medium chocolate dip ahead of us and now I was watching him struggle with a fast melting out of control leaning tower of cracked chocolate dip and vanilla. I was in a bit of a daze and didn't hear the girl at the window ask me if I wanted my dip cone in a cup. A cup? How fantastic! I had never thought of that. “Yes, I'll take the cup” as I watched the man who was now unusually contorted trying to eat the rapidly melting blob to my left. That could be me in a few moments I thought to myself. Yeah – I'll take a cup and a spoon....and some napkins...just in case.
I finally got an iPod over the summer – works great plugged into a boom box! It's a lot cooler than I expected. The problem is that I now have easy access to all the music I like. For years I've told my boys to turn their music down, Now they tell me to turn mine off! Tonight I was listening to Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell while I was working at my desk when I suddenly heard something hit the window directly in front of me. I got up and looked out the window to my son below shaking his head. “Turn it down” he yelled up to me. Eight feet away from him was my wife also looking up at me with a goofy smirk...So....I turned it up louder. I really like this iPod, but I may need a new window eventually. I wish I had something witty to say, but she took the words right out of my mouth.
