Hockey section of the Fair

I guess it's time to update the blog for the weekend. I took a break today after working around the house and caught an old video of the doors. It reminded me that I need to put in a new storm door., so I turned the TV off. I think I did enough today already. As the summer winds down it's time to get ready for Fall and hockey season. Yesterday we signed up for a new season, did a little free skate, then went to the New York State Fair to finish off the day. The Fair is usually a hit or miss for us most years. This year the weather was perfect. I think I like going at night better than during the day anyways. The lights are more impressive and the sun isn't beating down on you. While I was coaching up north we would usually grab something to eat at whatever rink we were at. In Canada almost every rink we played in had Poutine (Gravy over cheese curd and fries). That doesn't seem to be a big seller down here, but we found it at the New York State Fair. Of course we had to have some of that. I also miss having some Tim Horton's coffee, and there it was. The Tim Horton's trailer. We must be in the hockey section of the Fair I thought. The rink was close by so we stopped in to see what the coliseum looks like without ice. There was a riding competition in the main arena where the rink normally is. In the winter it's usually very cold just like I like it. This night it was very hot and humid. We didn't hang around there too long. We walked around for a while then caught a few songs at the Joan Jett show. She is very good and the crowd loved the show. As tradition we had to stop by the Dinosaur BBQ for a little late night snack. This was a pretty good weekend anyway you look at it. We checked out the cows, the rabbits, the chickens, and the go-karts. We saw the butter sculpture, the sand sculpture, and more. We walked and we walked, then we walked some more. I liked the Fair, but I like the place better when it's covered all in snow and the ice is in.
