Some players make the cut, some don’t. What do you do if you never make the cut? What’s the backup plan? What happens if you don’t realize your dream of professional hockey or Lacrosse? Not everyone makes it all the way. Do you have a backup plan? Well you should be thinking about this while you’re still in school. I’ll tell you straight out; get yourself in college, get a degree and get an education. Whether you play in college or go into the junior leagues, get an education. In highschool and junior high you need to get those grades up and keep them up. Anything can happen in life, an injury can change your future in a split second, your personal life can change direction for a lot of varied reasons. Some you choose, some you don’t, but an education comes in handy. A realistic approach to where you are and where you are going sometimes means you need to make choices that don’t always go along with your dreams for the future. This doesn’t mean you should give up pursuing a goal, but it does mean you should make use of what you have. School presents an opportunity to focus on learning. Later in life it gets harder to make time for continuing your education. It’s not impossible, it just takes a bit of juggling your time and responsibilities. Hockey and Lacrosse are great sports, and if you look around at some of the most successful players, you’ll find out that they’re pretty sharp, and have the grades to back it up. Now with school starting up, it’s a good idea to put as much effort into your school work as you would into your sport. One last thing; try to stay out of the penalty box.
