Game Face

This is pretty cool. I can work in Outlook and post to my blogg via email. I must say it is a lot faster. Of course that’s not always better, but we shall see. I’m actually looking forward to this weekend to start back in with some hockey clinics. The only problem is that I have to go out to Saint Paul for a few days between now and then. My boys are all excited about the new Madden NFL Xbox game that gets released today. I’m more interested in NHL 08. I won’t actually play the game, but I watch the boys play. I’m reading a new book on coaching philosophy. I haven’t decided yet if I like everything I’m reading.  It’s more geared for professional sports. Everyone has their own opinion and philosophy. I am interested in how other coaches think. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything. You’re always learning in coaching. It’s not always drills and plays, that’s only part of the game. I’m reading about game faces. I’m not sure peewees and bantams need to worry about putting on their game face. I want them to be ready to play and not get intimidated by the other team or the venue. I want to see confidence in the way they play. That’s why we work on their skills and teamwork. Anyone can pretend to be ready. You have to play like you’re ready, and you really want to be out there. You’re going for something, a goal – yeah that’s kind of important. What is the goal, to win, or to play like a champion? (How about to play your best and work as a member of the team….and have a bit of fun too while you’re at it) Anyone can make a face. What good is it if you really don’t feel like you’re ready to play? Do you think it will influence your opponent? Your playing will have the most impact on your opponent Put some effort in at practice and it will help you to prepare for the game. Put some effort in at the game too. Players who try …..go farther than those who do not. If you lose the game, don’t get too down on your team mates or yourself. Don’t get angry or make excuses. Learn from the experience and move on to the next challenge. My problem is everyone thinks I put on a game face. No, It’s just the way I look, what ya want, It’s just from all the wind and snow.
