The flight out of Philly was delayed. More flights were being delayed as the lightning was flashing across the sky. By the time our plane lifted off we were at the end of a long line of jets waiting to take off. As we climbed through the clouds the plane began to shake and turn until we were high above the thunderheads. As we passed these giant mountains of white clouds the plane would respond to the turbulence. Before I left I had been told by my wife that the sun was shinning back home. It wasn't when we got there. We began our descent in through the storm clouds. Lightning flashed far off in the distance as the plane began to shake and rock. Down below I could see the trees bending hard in the wind. Syracuse was in the grip of high winds and hard rain, It was a little bit of wide eyed landing for me. I must admit, the pilots did a heck of a job bringing us down safely in the storm. As we left the plane the rain was beating against the windows of the airport. I could see flights listed that had been canceled while weary travelers starred helplessly out at the storm. I was on back home though, and happy to be here. I walked past the smiling picture of the local mayor welcoming travelers to Syracuse. Up ahead I could see a people waiting for arrivals in their orange theme clothing. Yes Orange the color of home. As I drove north towards the lake I saw a complete rainbow had formed above the airport. The storm had stopped for a while to let some sun through causing this effect. I'm tired, but in the morning I'll back to normal sipping coffee while the boys do their skate and shoot. Then the following day Hockey starts back up. I'm looking up to make sure my Boston College whistle is at the ready. It doesn't get any better than this. Well it does, but this is pretty good for right now.
