Back On The ICE

It's Sunday morning. I've got my coffee, newspaper, muffin, and handheld PC. These are all the essentials for being non-productive. I also have my cell phone so that I can ignore calls. There is also the capability to take pictures with the phone, but I'm not doing that either. This is the perfect mobile office. I am fully prepared if genius strikes me. I'm sitting here waiting, but nothings happening. OK, I guess I could try to write something poignant. I better run spell check though to see if I spelled poignant right. Thankfully I'll be heading out the door soon to go to the rink. This is a good excuse to avoid working for awhile. Yesterday we took our two youngest boys to skate and shoot early in the morning. Early is a loose term. I call four in the morning early to head down to the rink. Seven thirty is a tough sell in the summer. It was a historic day for Nicholas who took a year off to concentrate on Lacrosse. He is a very good attack man in lacrosse, but he was also a gifted hockey player. A year off seems like a long time. I went along with it because it was really his decision. He had played up north on both the American side and the Canadian. Hockey is king in the land of ICE and snow, but Lacrosse is the big dog down here. Tyler is still doing both, Devin (our college boy) is all lacrosse, and now Nic who was totally engrossed in lax, now is giving hockey another go. Me, I love both sports, but Hockey will always be a special part of my life. How did yesterday go? Both boys looked good. There were a couple of players down from back home to warm up for the Canadian Juniors tryouts. We also had one of the first year Bantams out there from my team last year. They all did very well. I'd let them know if they weren't keeping up with the big boys. There's no checking, and we know all the players. They're pretty good kids, and excellent hockey players. A year off is a long time, but even though Nic was sore from using muscles he hasn't used for a while, he proved he still has the skills and those signature moves. Of course now Tyler is closing in on him. Time to move onward and upward. Can someone take time off from hockey and comeback? You bet they can. I hold to the belief that Lacrosse and hockey compliment each other in many ways. Will going back on the ice take away from his lacrosse skills? I don't think so. I think they'll go up a notch or two. We'll see how things go over the next few weeks. Oh well, it's time to head out. This is going to be something to see.
