Practice for Skill

Working from my Pocket PC today. I'll be adding some links, one in particular will be to Mike Powell's website. Mike, Ryan, and Casey Powell are some of the biggest names in Lacrosse. From their days up in Carthage NY to Syracuse University, to the pros. The Powells are known for their skill and hard work. Mike is known for his legendary tricks with the ball. All three Powells are extremely creative players that add character to the sport. Watching these lacrosse stars give demonstrations and interact with young players is something to see first hand. This summer at Cortland State I watched one of their demonstrations. They were very good with the young players, and took their time to speak with their fans. One of the main points that is demonstrated to the young players is that it takes practice, determination, and hard work to be very good. The same message holds true for hockey players. The Powells practiced out behind their house when they were growing up on a lot of the skills they crafted over the years . The players that work on their skills not only at regular team practices, but on their own will improve with hard work. Hockey players should work on stick handling, shooting, and skating whenever the opportunity arises. Public skating is a great resource to skate laps and build stamina and work on stops, backward skating, and turns. Lacrosse players can play wall ball, catch with a partner (Family and friends), and run. At your regular team practice or on your own, you get out what you put in.
