Hockey can be quite consuming. Practices and games take up nights and weekends for many families who have young players on the ice. From mites to midgets, parents haul gear and players to and from the rinks, sometimes over long distances for a few short hours on the ice. Some families have more than one child in the same or different activities and are trying to juggle time between them and things that are going on in every day life. I’ve watched players; including my own children grow up playing hockey and lacrosse. One minute you’re helping them tie their skates, the next they’re asking to take the car to practice. For me, these are great times, and I have great memories, with hopefully many more to come. The time seems to fly by faster than you expect. I have been very fortunate to coach some great young players over the years. I also hope that some of them will come back as coaches, and or parents. It wasn’t until I had my own kids on the ice that I realized how much my parents had done for me. It all goes by very fast.
